SUN PROTECTION TIPS
- Always apply sun block liberally before going outside. You can get
sunburned even on cloudy days or in wintertime.
- Apply sun block at least 15 to 20 minutes before going out in the sun.
- Sun block should be re-applied every two to three hours, and also
after swimming, perspiring, and towel-drying.
- The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) indicates how much longer a time
than the actual self-protection time one can stay in the sun after
applying sunscreen. For example, if your self-protection time is 20
minutes and the SPF of your lotion is 4, you can stay in the sun for a
maximum of 80 minutes. A fully protective sun lotion has an SPF of over
20.
- Dermatologists recommend that people with pale to moderate skin
color use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15
every day.
- Pay special attention to delicate skin areas of your body which can
wrinkle easily, like your lips and under your eyes. Make sure to wear a
hat and sunglasses!
- Stay out of the sun when it's at its strongest, usually between 10
a.m. and 3 p.m. This time period is when about half of the overall UV
radiation exposure is obtained. If you have to be out, be sure to use
plenty of Caribbean Breeze sun block!
- Be watchful. Having over 50 moles of different shapes and sizes
indicates an increased risk for getting skin cancer.
